On 21 August 2025, the StatinTB Consortium convened virtually for its Final Project Meeting.

While the StatinTB EDCTP grant will end in September 2025, the clinical trial has not yet been completed due to several external challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and unforeseen circumstances in participant enrolment. Recruitment and follow-up of participants will therefore continue with funding from the US National Institutes of Health and the University of Cape Town.

At the meeting, which was also attended by EDCTP Project Officer Dr. Debora Bade, the project PIs Prof. Reto Guler, Prof. Friedrich Thienemann, Dr. Sandra Mukasa, Dr. Emmanuel Nepolo, and Dr. Gunar Günther presented project progress to date and outlined upcoming activities, including trial completion, clinical and laboratory analyses, and dissemination of final results.

Dr. Bade commended the consortium on its achievements to date, which include WHO endorsement of StatinTB in October 2023, several publications, and highly promising interim results.
